Wasteland Workshop - Session 1 (Jan. 20, 2026)

One of the main drivers of Expedition Outpost is my love of miniature crafting, painting, and gaming — the whole hobby. Games, miniatures, worlds like Fallout — they’re meant to be built, touched, tested, and slowly understood. From the beginning, I envisioned a strong hobby side to the Outpost. The Wasteland Workshop is an expression of that intent, and of our shared love for miniature gaming and the Fallout universe.

The plan for the workshop is simple, even if the end state isn’t: build the miniatures, learn the rules, construct terrain and Fallout props, and eventually field multiple factions across a shared wasteland. No rush to “play it right.” No pressure to optimize. Just steady progress toward something bigger — an evolving Fallout battlefield with real history behind it.

The first night was exactly what it needed to be.

Sprues were cut. Rules were browsed. We made a few early mistakes with weapon selection, caught them, and corrected course. That’s part of the process. Two true beginners joined us, so instead of forcing everyone through assembly at the same pace, we split the flow: experienced builders handled the sprues while the newcomers painted pre-primed minis. No gatekeeping. No idle time. Everyone contributing.

We didn’t expect to be playing yet — and we weren’t. Assembly is progress. Handling the models, seeing the weapons, understanding scale and intent — that’s how familiarity forms before dice or rulebooks ever come out.

Next session: priming our first armies and painting our first miniatures. Terrain building, and gameplay, will follow in future sessions. The wasteland will come together in layers, the way it should.

Long-term, the Wasteland Workshop will run weekly. It’s open to anyone who wants to contribute, with flexible ways to participate:

  • Tier One: Paint a communal army miniature using house tools. These minis stay and become part of the shared wasteland.
  • Tier Two: Buy a starter or core set and begin building your own force alongside the group.

No pressure. Just building toward a shared goal. I’ll continue documenting the process, capturing photos and video, and evolving our social posts as the game takes shape.

If you love Fallout, miniatures, or the quiet satisfaction of watching something take form over time — this table is for you.
